Follow Friday (14) & Book Blogger Hop (8)

Let's step away from besties...What is the worst book that you've ever read and actually finished?

I hate answering question like this, but it's just not possible to enjoy every single book. The worst book I ever read was Bitterschokolade by Mirjam Pressler. It's a German book about a girl who is overweight and doesn't have any friends because it and her self-esteem issues. It has won a lot of awards and is one of those books that you might have to read in school, although that wasn't the case for me. I jut wanted to read something in German, but it took me years to finish it and it's not even 200 pages. I literally kept falling asleep and would wake up with the book next to me. When I finally finished it I was disappointed about how everything just seem to fall into place instantly at the end. Life doesn't just magically fix itself all of a sudden, but maybe it's just aimed at really young readers since it's pretty light-hearted for such a serious story. It's the reason I haven't read many German books since.

This week’s question isn’t a question at all! I thought I would do things a little differently this week and give all of you a chance to promote a giveaway (or two!) from the blogosphere.

The Reader Bee is having a giveway for a signed copy of The Goddess Test by Aimée Carter. I haven't read it yet, but have heard a lot of great things and it's on my ever-growing TBR list. Click the button below to check it out and good luck :-)

  1. I'm impressed you read a book in German, given that I would probably only manage an ABC book :) It's a pity it wasn't one you liked!

  2. Hey!

I do like the sound of that, although i can barely scrape a sentence together in German so don't think it'll be on my tbr pile. Great answer.

  3. New Follower,,Ive never heard of that book coarse,,its not my choice of genre,,,but also have some books, that get the best sellers list,,and im like really? but one thing,,you need to remember..just because the book was sold doesn't mean it was read or actually

  4. Never heard o that book, probably because its German but I gotta say it doesn't sound great. I can't believe it took you that long to read it, it must be terrible!

  5. I salute all the brave souls that soldier on to finish a bad book. I could never do that. I never have and I can’t imagine I ever will.

This week’s Follow Friday question is an excellent companion to last week’s Book Blogger Hop question.

Follow me back to my blog and read all about why I hardly ever start a bad book let alone finish one –

Read both my Book Blogger Hop post last week and my Follow Friday post this week and you’ll get the bigger picture of how my mind works. Don’t say I didn’t warn you! [grin]

    Thank G-d It’s Follow Friday!

  6. Thanks for picking my giveaway!! :)

Sorry you didn't enjoy the book you read. It sounds like it might be a hard book to get into. I hate it when that happens!

I hope you have an awesome weekend!!

  7. I'm kinda surprised you don't read more books in German...but I guess the market is different too, huh?

Despite the unsavory taste of the book, I kinda want some chocolate now...LOL!

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  8. @Agrippina: Thank you, but it's not really that impressive since I speak German and live in Germany :-)

@Cait: It took me so long because after I kept falling asleep and I gave up reading it for a year. When I finally finished it, it took me a couple hours :-)

@aLmYbNeNr: A lot of the books I know are just English books that have been translated and since they tend to be abridged (with a few exceptions), I prefer to read the full story. Plus a lot are released not days, weeks or months later, but years e.g., around the same time the fourth book in the Iron Fey series is coming out, only the second will be made available in German. Why wait years when I can read them ASAP?

English is my first language and despite the fact that half my family is German and I've lived in Germany for a while now, I think I'll always prefer to read in English. Hopefully one day I'll read more books in German.

  9. Here's my attempt to pick my favorite literary device. Also, I'd like to invite you to throw your name into the hat for a $25 Amazon gift certificate in Readerbuzz's July Giveaway! It's international!

    I always follow back!

  10. Hopping through. Thanks for the info about The Goddess Test giveaway! Have a great weekend.
