When a strange boy tumbles down a river embankment and lands at her feet, seventeen-year-old adrenaline junkie Deznee Cross snatches the opportunity to piss off her father by bringing the mysterious hottie with ice blue eyes home.

Except there’s something off with Kale. He wears her shoes in the shower, is overly fascinated with things like DVDs and vases, and acts like she’ll turn to dust if he touches her. It’s not until Dez's father shows up, wielding a gun and knowing more about Kale than he should, that Dez realizes there’s more to this boy—and her father’s “law firm”—than she realized.

Kale has been a prisoner of Denazen Corporation—an organization devoted to collecting "special" kids known as Sixes and using them as weapons—his entire life. And, oh yeah, his touch? It kills. The two team up with a group of rogue Sixes hellbent on taking down Denazen before they’re caught and her father discovers the biggest secret of all. A secret Dez has spent her life keeping safe.

A secret Kale will kill to protect.

Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Release Date: December 6, 2011
Publisher: Entangled Publishing
Series: Lux
Goodreads | Amazon | Barnes & Noble

Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring…. until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something…unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don’t kill him first, that is.

Glimpse by Stacey Wallace Benefiel
Release Date: May 9, 2010
Publisher: Stacey Wallace Benefiel
Series: Zellie Wells
Goodreads | Amazon | The Book Depository

Zellie Wells has a devastating crush on Avery Adams, the son of her mom’s high school sweetheart. At her sixteenth birthday party, held in the basement of her dad’s church, she finally finds the courage to talk to him. Turns out, the devastating crush is mutual.

As Avery takes her hand and leads her out onto the makeshift dance floor, Zellie is overwhelmed by her first vision of his death; shocking because not only are they both covered in his blood, but they’re old, like 35, and she is pregnant.

Afraid to tell anyone about the vision, (she’d just be labeled a freaky black magic witch, right?) Zellie keeps the knowledge of Avery’s future to herself and tries to act like any other teenager in love. When they get caught on their way to a secret rendezvous by her mom and his dad, they are forbidden to see each other.

Convinced that their parents are freaking out unnecessarily, Avery and Zellie vow to be together no matter what. They continue their relationship in secret until Zellie learns that their parents are just trying to prevent her and Avery from suffering like they did. The visions are hereditary, they’re dangerous, and if they stay together the visions will come true.

Now Zellie must choose between severing all ties with Avery, like her mom did to prevent his father’s death, and finding a way to change Avery’s future.

The choice is made for her, when, due to a series of catastrophic events a new power emerges within Zellie that aids her in protecting her family and Avery, but causes his father’s, Mike Adams, death in the process.

Confused, angry, and frightened that their daughter might be responsible for Mike Adams demise, Zellie’s parents send her to Portland to stay with her great aunt Hazel for the summer. There, Zellie meets a mentor and sets about embracing her abilities and using them for good. The only problem is her powers aren’t as, well, powerful without Avery by her side, and he totally hates her for killing his dad.

Not exactly the kind of situation where Zellie can ask WWJD, is it?

  1. I'm really curious about Obsidian, too. Great picks you have there, I hadn't heard about many of those!

  2. You've got some cool picks up there, but I think I like OBSIDIAN. I was totally ready to pass it by, because it looks like every YA book, but I saw it was written by Jennifer Armentrout. She got me at "Stab-worthy", I'm definitely keeping my eye out for this one. I just wish it had a better cover.

    Jennifer (An Abundance of Books)

  3. Great choices. Obsidian is on my wishlist too. I've read Aremtrout's Half-Blood and loved it. Her writing style is great. Hope you get your wishes soon :)

  4. Awesome wishlist! "Eternal Starling" looks interesting. Thanks for sharing!

  5. You have some great books on your list :) I hope you get most of them ASAP!

Touched is near the top of my wishlist, it sounds so great. And Eternal Starling sounds interesting, I hadn't heard much about it.

  6. They all sound great. I'm still super busy with school and the new kitten. But I do have a new wish, a picture book I want to read with my daughter. Come see what it is.

  7. Wow, you picked great books! I will be adding some to my TBR list. :)

  8. That last one looks cute. I wonder why all these guys in books are all so strange, mysterious, dragging the girl to danger. I am right?
