Juliette hasn't touched anyone in exactly 264 days.
The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal. As long as she doesn't hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don't fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.
The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war-- and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she's exactly what they need right now.
Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.
Juliette has been locked up, surrounded by the same 4 walls for 264 days alone, until he arrives.
There are so many emotions you go through with Juliette, page to page. You're numb, scared, confused, intrigued, excited, devastated, courageous and something she'd only be able to perceive as happiness since life hasn't given her any real opportunities to know what that is until now. Everything effects Juliette and you feel for her before you even know her. What she's gone through and faces ahead is a lot to handle and even that much difficult when the world around her is crumbling.
Animals are dying, desperation for food is growing, the weather is erratic and the rate people are dying is alarming. The Reestablishment promised to fix things, but more people die on the other end of their guns than empty stomachs. Juliette has been completely neglected by her family and ostracized by society her whole life – made to feel like she's a monster. And that's exactly what The Reestablishment wants Juliette to be, so she can help them with their cause.
This book is addictive! I love suspenseful ending that making you anticipate the next book that much more, but with Shatter Me that was the case for every chapter. I couldn't put this book down because I needed to know what happens, keeping me simultaneously anticipating and dreading what would.
Shatter Me captivated me from beginning to end. Tahereh Mafi's story is unique, her writing engrossing and characters riveting. It's a thrilling paranormal dystopian with romance and action that I'd recommend to everybody.
