Starters by Lissa Price
Release Date: March 13, 2012
Publisher: Delacorte Books for Young Readers
Series: Starters
Goodreads | Amazon | B&N | The Book Depository
After the outbreak of a deadly virus there are only very old and young people. Destitute 16 year old Callie and her little brother are fighting on the streets to live. Callie decides to do the unthinkable: She rents out her body to a older person, their consciousness will take over her body and be young again. But everything proceeds differently then planned…
The Body Bank – a mysterious scientific institute gives Callie a unique opportunity to get money. She'll let her consciousness be turned off while a rich renter takes control of her body. However Callie wakes up earlier than planned in a strange life. She's suddenly living in a expensive villa, has luxury in abundance and falls in love with Blake. But she soon finds out that her body as been rented for a purpose – to carry out a terrible plan that Callie has to prevent at any cost…
The synopsis I used is the German one (same release date as the US) that I translated since there isn't an official English one yet.
Lissa Price describes Starters as the first in a YA futuristic thriller series featuring a society where youth is coveted at an impossible price, and one girl’s ability to bring it all crumbling down. That was more than enough to intrigue me and after reading the first 18 pages, I'm anticipating the release even more. Rented your body and having it control without your knowledge is unsettling enough without the suspicions I have about the doctor Callie consults with at the Body Bank. The idea of what she's agreeing to do makes her sick and want to escape, but one thought holding her back from running.
The brief glimpse I got of the world is very desolate, policed and has a "every man for themselves" feel to it.
The Starters audiobook narrator, Annina Braunmiller is the voice of Twilight's Bella Swan in the movies and latest audio versions of the Twilight series in German as well as Aimee Friedman's Sea Change, Amanda Hocking's My Blood Approves series, Lauren Oliver's Delirium and Maggie Stiefvater's The Wolves of Mercy Falls series. @Kat C: It has the same release date as the US. The German publishers just released an excerpt earlier. Why? I have not idea. I'm surprised that the release dates are the same. There is usually a 6 months to 2 years, if at all difference.

Krazyyme @ Young Readers
I am just starting to ease into sci-fi or futuristic novels and I think I'm gonna like this one. Demonic possessions are one thing; having a person invade your body is entirely something else. This could be something my friends would like, too. Too bad though, there's something about the cover that seems off for me. Hehe Hope the publisher gets to improve it. ^_^
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my WoW post this week, Petra! ;)
- Mauie (The Traveling Reader)
This one looks really good. I love all the scifi/dystopian novels that are coming out.
